Long overdue Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is now available for the AT&T Galaxy Tab 8.9 (SGH-i957). After installing the ICS, the users will get rich notifications, resizeable widgets, easy multitasking, customizable home screens, deep social integration and load of more stuff. Here’s how to update Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:
Interestingly, the ICS update isn’t available as OTA (over the Air) and you have to install it through Samsung’s proprietary Kies application. All you have to do is to hookup your Galaxy Tab 8.9 into the computer using USB cable and launch Kies. Ensure that Kies recognizes your device by looking in the upper left-bar navigation menu. Once Kies recognizes the device you will see the following pop-up.

Just click update and Samsung Kies will coax out Android ICS into your device. Stay calm, the upgrade might take sometime. After upgrade, the baseband version of the device will be changed to I957UCLK4 (from I957UCKJ7). If you performed a data backup from your device to Kies before updating your Galaxy Tab 8.9 to ICS 4.0.4, you can now restore that data back to the device.
Warning: Different settings and apps will be reset during the update. Per Samsung’s support documentation – home screen placements (applications, widgets, and wallpaper) and application menu will be reset, contacts stored on the device may be erased and the music app’s playlists and settings will also be reset to default.
