How to Unlock Samsung Galaxy Note 2 II and Galaxy S3 for Free [Guide]

Most GSM Galaxy Note II devices come carrier locked, and don’t work on other networks unless you remove all network restrictions by using 8 digit Samsung Galaxy Note 2 II network Unlock Code. Carriers normally charge $50 to unlock your device but developer at XDA forum managed to locate a hidden menu in Galaxy Note 2 that allows you to unlock a pre-locked device without having to pay premium.

The best part of this unlock is it’s free and doesn’t even require any sort of hardware or software alteration or modification. It’s just like a factory unlock. Here is a quick guide for Samsung Galaxy Note II owners who want a network unlock for their phone.

Ensure that the phone is actually locked. You can check by inserting a SIM card from a different carrier/provider. If your phone doesn’t work, it is ‘locked’.

  • Your Galaxy Note II phone must be running at least Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher.

Step 1: On Galaxy Note II, launch the phone app and press these keys: *#197328640#

Step 2: From the Main Menu, navigate to [1] UMTS > [1]Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options.

Step 3: Choose [3] Perso SHA256 OFF. Have patience and wait for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Press the menu key and then back once to navigate to [6] Network Lock

Step 5: Choose [4]NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ. Wait for one minute after making the choice.

Step 6: Reboot your Galaxy Note II.

Your Galaxy Note 2 phone should now be unlocked, and ready for use with any carrier. You will NOT receive any sort of confirmation on the screen, so just put in a different carrier’s SIM and try it out. If the new SIM card works then your phone is now unlocked. Once unlocked, it is permanent, and your Galaxy note 2 will be factory unlocked status even after updating your phone’s firmware. You will be able to use your phone with any network carriers worldwide without any restriction such as on T-Mobile USA, or on a prepaid international SIM while travelling abroad.

We have independently verified the process listed above and were able to unlock Galaxy Note 2 AT&T SGH-I317 model within minutes. I was also able to unlock Galaxy Note II N7105 originally locked to Orange. We have received reports that the guide also works for the N7100 – and some Galaxy S 3 models as well (not guaranteed).

What about you? Try to unlock your device on AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers Bell, Telus, Sasktel, O2 or Vodafone and let us know. For more details and troubleshooting tips, check out the XDA forum thread.
